About this site

About the Horizons desk and its checks

Four Horizons is run by its own editors and signed as the Horizons desk, with no personal byline. It exists because Québec’s four casinos make four very different trips, and the facts for each are scattered over many pages.

Who keeps the guide

The Horizons desk is the guide’s own editorial team, credited as a whole with no personal byline. The guide is not affiliated with Loto-Québec, Playground, the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission or any venue. Venues, Loto-Québec, transit agencies and help services never pay it. Readers are offered no rewards.

Money reaches the guide by one route only: the home page. There, three links tagged Ad send readers to a single privately run online casino site. That site is separate from lotoquebec.com, and Québec does not run, license or authorize it. Each visit that becomes business earns the guide a commission; the online partner is not fixed for good, and no inner page carries such a link. Beside some sections, the desk leaves a short note repeating a tip or warning from that section.

Sources and checks

The Horizons desk takes street addresses and phone numbers from each venue’s own pages. Map positions come from OpenStreetMap coordinates. Hours appear in Eastern Time, exactly as the venues publish them. Each fact stays tied to the source it came from. The main check across the site ran on October 7, 2026.

Its sources include Loto-Québec’s casino, gaming-hall and corporate pages, the Hippodrome 3R site, Playground’s site and the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission. Gambling: Help and Referral, the RACJ, Québec’s Ministry of Finance and the federal Criminal Code cover rules and help. The desk also draws on the Institut de la statistique du Québec, and on CBC and L’actualité for some history. Venue names stay in French, as the venues write them.

House rules

Every distance on this site is a straight line from a city hall, worked out from map coordinates. The road itself runs longer. When official pages give different figures or days, the Horizons desk either leaves the figure out or says the pages differ. Temporary notices carry the date of the check, October 7, 2026.

The guide does not list holiday hours, because several venues say only that they are open on statutory holidays. Before a holiday trip, a look at that venue’s own page is worth the minute.

Bingo halls, video lottery bars and the Kinzo game fall outside this guide. In Kahnawà:ke, the guide lists neither The Office Poker Club nor River Run Poker as open. For the first, no hours or website turned up. For the second, no notice of reinstatement was found.

About the pictures

The top photographs on the Casino de Montréal, Casino du Lac-Leamy and Casino de Charlevoix pages are free-licence pictures from Flickr and Wikimedia Commons. Two more free-licence photographs inside the Montréal and Charlevoix pages had a generated figure added, and each free photograph shows its author and licence beneath it. The Hippodrome de Trois-Rivières from above and the PLAYGROUND wall came from image-generating software working from real photographs of those places. Everything else, from landscapes and streets to the clay-style icons and the figures beside the text, came from that same software and shows no real venue. The people pictured are fictional, and none works for a venue, Loto-Québec or Playground.

Writing to the guide

Write to the guide at [email protected]. A letter might flag an error, report a changed hour, or ask about the guide’s method. The mailbox belongs to the guide alone and reaches no venue, Loto-Québec or Playground. Anything meant for a venue is best sent to that venue directly.
